Dhowa Rock Temple. Sri Lanka

Dhowa Rock Temple is a protected heritage site, situated in the central mountains of the Uva province on the Badulla – Bandarawela main road, 7 km far from Ella.

The Dhowa rock temple is famous for its large unfinished Buddha image, carved into the rock face. The cave constitutes of 28 Buddha statues, Samadhi Buddha statue, God statues and paintings.

The temple dates back over 2000 years. Historic portraits can be seen drawn inside a cave.
